This week, I have had several new clients asking us about hair loss and how to prevent it. I can remember a few stressful periods in my life when my hair was everywhere. You know… when it’s in your shower, in your brush, your pillow, all over the bathroom counter. So on those evenings when I couldn’t sleep. I dove into researching why my hair was falling out.
Nope, I wasn’t pregnant
Nope, I wasn’t on any medications
So for those of us who are just going about trying to do our best, day in and day out. Trying to keep up with work, family, kids, aging parents, grand kids, friends, coworkers, the house, eating healthy, fitting in exercise where we can. This is for you.
Vitamin B Complex – B-vitamins help carry oxygen and nutrients to your scalp, which aids in hair growth. Whole grains, meat, seafood and dark, leafy greens are all good sources of B-vitamins.
Vitamin C – Vitamin C is needed to make collagen and can help prevent hair from aging. Good sources include peppers, citrus fruits and strawberries.
Vitamin D – One form of hair loss is linked to deficiencies. You can increase vitamin D levels through sun exposure or by eating certain foods.
Iron – A major cause of hair loss, especially in women. This was a key finding for me. Have your ferritin levels checked. The best sources of iron include clams, oysters, eggs, red meat, spinach and lentils.
Zinc – Can improve hair growth in people who are deficient in it. Good sources include oysters, beef and pumpkin seeds.
My research also brought me to new findings on “cones,” including silicone, dimethicone, and more. We’ll talk more on that in my next blog post. For now you can read up on previous blog posts:

We had to go really deep to get to the bottom of which “cones” were safe for use and which ones were not.
Here is the scoop, many of us who used products with silicone to smooth our hair along with sulfate free shampoos caused a build up that suffocated the hair shaft and we experienced hair loss. It wasn’t anyone’s fault. Just a perfect storm in which we thought we were being good to our hair, that caused the hair loss.
To combat this, I recommend two things.
- Scalp massage using the inversion method with a product from Neuma called ReNeu Scalp Therapy.
- Plus a weekly detox with a color safe shampoo from Colorproof called ClearItUp.
(You can get both of these at Make Me Fab of course, plus we always ship for free)
reNeu Scalp Therapy features a proprietary blend of plant extracts and essential oils to maximize color hue, vibrancy and longevity while an exclusive blend of plant nutrients protect color from UVA & UVB oxidation. Can be used weekly, or as needed, to help maintain and promote healthy scalp and hair. Aroma provided by pure essential oils of Corn Mint, Vanilla & Peppermint. main
To do the method properly, you can research it more on YouTube. Flip your head over and massage the scalp for 4 minutes 7 days in a row each month. That’s it! This product is a clean product and we also recommend it once a week in the shower. You can use this alone or mix with any shampoo. It is also color safe. We love Neuma products because, they use ZERO synthetic fragrance, phthalates, isothiazolinones, sulfates, sodium chloride, parabens, bromides, 1,4-dioxane, glutens, soy, neurotoxins, aluminum compounds, glycols*, formaldehyde donors, ureas, methylisothiazolinone, FD&C Colorant**, carcinogens or environmental pollutants***.
Also use a clarifying shampoo once a week. We like Colorproof Detox ClearItUp shampoo .
ClearItUp is a super-charged clarifier for color-treated hair. Gently cleanses and deodorizes while removing build up. Leaves hair amazingly clean, soft, and weightless. It detoxifies, clarifies, and removes build-up, extremely gentle and non-stripping, unlike other clarifiers, Revives hair leaving it clean, deodorized, soft, and touchable, provides unsurpassed color and heat protection.
